How To Make Cocktails in Your Slow Cooker

By Carolyn Stine January 14, 2019

Spoiler alert: Your slow cooker isn’t just for chili any more...

We love a cocktail, we tolerate a mocktail, but what about.. a crocktail? And no, that was not a typo. A crocktail is a new breed of cocktail that you can make in your, wait for it, SLOW COOKER. As if you needed more reasons to justify purchasing one, now you can put that baby to work at the bar next time you’re hosting a gathering at your place. We rounded up the most delicious, delightful cocktails that are perfect for a wintertime soiree and will keep your guests cozy (and coming back for more).

Spiced Wine

Also known as… the OG winter cocktail. We would be remiss if we didn’t include this magical mulled wine recipe, which is hopped up on fresh spices like cinnamon and cardamom. The finishing touch? Fresh orange zest and juice for a pop of bright citrus.

Hot Manuka Honey Apple Cider

We love and tout the health benefits of manuka honey and apple cider vinegar pretty much on the daily. But what we’re bringing you here isn’t a master cleanse, but an adult cocktail that also happens to be pretty darn good for you. Add a healthy glug of rye whiskey for a spicy burn at the end.

Gingerbread Latte

Hosting a wintertime brunch? You’re gonna want to have this perennial winter favorite simmering away in your crockpot. It’s pretty much the winter version of the pumpkin spice latte, complete with all of the flavors of a snowy winter’s day. We like adding spiced rum at the end, which will have your guests in boozy latte heaven.

Hot Buttered Rum

Also known as, as close as we could possibly get to butterbeer. This buttered rum has an incredibly rich flavor, and pretty much feels like Harry Potter World in a glass. We love the kick that the spicy cloves add, too.

Peppermint Hot Chocolate

Our long-standing winter Starbucks order from our middle school years, the peppermint hot chocolate is a thing of beauty. Especially when you add peppermint schnapps (then it really becomes a party.) Try setting up a topping bar for this cocktail with mini marshmallows and chocolate shavings to your heart’s content.

Ginger-Lemon Hot Toddies

Did you know that hot toddies date back to the 18th century, when pubs around Edinburgh served Scotch whiskey with a splash of boiling water to fend off that Scottish chill? These days, we added a combo of fresh ginger and crystallized ginger for a bit of bite, and that perfect combo of whiskey and rum to ward off that winter cold.

Spirited Hot Mocha

One of the (many) things that we love about this hot mocha is that it doubles as both a slow cooker cocktail AND dessert. Chocolate, coffee, and brandy are one of our all-time favorite flavor trifectas, and a dollop of homemade whipped cream on top sweetens the deal.
