Proposal Season Is Here - Our 8 Favorite Spots To Pop The Question

By Carolyn Stine December 24, 2018

We round up all of the up-and-coming, unique, and fabulous proposal destinations for holiday 2018.

For some, the holidays may mean time spent at home, baking cookies with loved ones, and attending spirited soirees. For others, to quote our friends from Wedding Crashers, it’s officially proposal season. And now that we’ve passed the November 1st threshold, you better believe it’s ON. So while we’ve all been witness to those proposals at home, in Washington Square Park, or beside the Eiffel Tower in Paris, what if there was a quirkier, more unique, and up-and-coming destination where that proposal could occur instead? We rounded up our favorite off the beaten path proposal destinations for the holiday 2018 season (you may want to visit them even if you’re not being proposed too!).

Saugerties Lighthouse, New York

Saugerties Lighthouse, New York

Picture this: an idyllic 19th century lighthouse along the Hudson River, with a cozy bedroom inside for two? Sign us up. We love the idea of being able to access our romantic lair by land only a few times each day (they recommend that you consult the tidal schedule), or having to arrive and depart by boat. The surrounding area is filled with pure nature - think hikes and bird watching before coming back to your private lighthouse to read and drink wine by the fire. This is the perfect destination in which to find a quiet moment for the big ask.

Blackberry Farm

The Inn at Blackberry Farm, Tennessee

If food and wine tickle your fancy, this beautiful working farm in rural Tennessee would be a singularly special place to propose to your loved one. A couple can be as active or relaxed here as they want to be. The inn hosts a wide range of activities, from archery to spa treatments, and there are daily wine and whiskey tastings, as well as a beautiful restaurant. Proposing while out foraging in the woods for mushrooms, followed by a candlelit, farm to table dinner? Sounds wholly romantic to us.

Glacier Under Canvas

Glacier Under Canvas, Montana

Certifiable glamping in one of the most naturally beautiful places in our fair country… that’s an absolute YES. These luxury tents can be booked with king beds and beautiful linens so that you get the camping experience while still having the comforts of home (or a luxe hotel). Glacier National Park offers an incredible array of once in a lifetime experiences, from white water rafting to horseback riding to private guided tours, that you and your partner will never forget. The other thing you’ll never forget? Being proposed to here.

Hotel Cheval

Hotel Cheval, Paso Robles

Remember what Napa was twenty years ago, before the crowds and the bachelorette parties? Meet Paso Robles, Napa’s cooler, more relaxed little sister. This beautiful area located between San Francisco and Los Angeles has incredible wineries and a funky downtown full of excellent spots for exploring and dining with your partner. Hotel Cheval is situated in the heart of town, and feels like a beautiful oasis, full of reading nooks and fire pits. It’s the quintessential Cali spot for planning that big and beautiful moment.

Inn and Spa at Loretto, Santa Fe

Like an old school pueblo rising out of the desert, the Inn and Spa at Loretto is stunning to behold. It’s located in the heart of Santa Fe, and is the perfect launching point for exploring a city filled with art galleries, museum, and architecture, It’s also the home of a beautiful pool and spa, and the perfect patio for sunset cocktails. A couples massage followed by a sunset stroll that ends in a proposal and champagne against a desert backdrop? Sounds pretty incredible to us.

Trumbull and Porter Hotel

Trumbull and Porter Hotel, Detroit

If city living is how you both like to roll, whisk your loved one away to one of the most under-rated and up-and-coming cities in America for a weekend of romance: Detroit. Trumbull and Porter is a quirky and utterly charming boutique hotel in the city center that provides easy walking access to everything from the Detroit Institute of Arts, to the waterfront, to a vast array of eateries and watering holes. We love the outdoor firepit and patio bedecked with twinkle lights for a twilight proposal.

Amangiri, Utah

We can unequivocally describe Amangiri as one of the most beautiful resorts we’ve ever seen, bar none. In the middle of the desert (but only a 25 minute drive from Page, Arizona), this sleek and minimalist oasis feels like you landed on a beautiful moonscape. Whether you’re luxuriating by the pool or exploring the nearby Lake Powell, being proposed to amidst the sheer majesty of this setting would be an unforgettable experience.

Treebones, Big Sur

Treebones, Big Sur

That legendary drive down the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur is something that we know as #roadtripgoals. But having the journey culminate in a gorgeous yurt on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean? That’s what we call #proposalgoals. Rent a convertible, set out from San Francisco, and book a stay at the beautiful Treebones Resort, which also has a high-end sushi restaurant on-premises and offers hot stone massages with your loved one.
