Ah, Labor Day weekend. This holiday always feels like a bit of a bittersweet pill to swallow, as it signifies the unofficial end of summer, and all of the lovely things that go with it. But we’re turning this weekend into a labor of love by planning to share it with friends, a cocktail in hand, on a scenic rooftop somewhere special. We rounded up some of the top destinations nationwide where we want to be spending Labor Day weekend (if only we could be in multiple places at once - working on that next).
620 Jones in San Francisco
This indoor/outdoor space on a terrace in the Tenderloin is the perfect spot for gathering a festive group. They have tables big and small, a rotating daily happy hour special, and surprisingly addictive roasted brussels sprouts. Don’t forget to bring a leather jacket for those chilly SF evenings.
Public Hotel in New York City
A hotel with a rooftop - what else is new? This relative newcomer to the NYC hotel scene boasts one of our favorite rooftops, complete with incredible views of the westside sunset. You’ll want to go just for the neon light-up escalators that bring you up from the ground floor (don’t forget to snap a photo). And their frosé is dangerous – watch out!
Aba in Chicago
Decked out with greenery, picture-perfect lanterns, a firepit, and 4000 square feet to boot? Sign us up for Labor Day! This gorgeous new rooftop features ample seating and a Mediterranean-influenced menu that is perfect for sharing. Think hummus, marinated olives, and an incredible lamb tartare.
Tiki in Philadelphia
Our favorite happy hour spot in Philly, and an excellent purveyor of summery Tiki drinks. If you’re feeling wild this Labor Day weekend, you can order punch bowls for your group here, and even dim sum dumplings en masse.
1 Hotel in South Beach
Our favorite rooftop vista in all of South Beach may be from the rooftop pool at the 1 Hotel. This gorgeously light and airy hotel features oceanfront views, plush cabanas, and a surprisingly diverse food and drink menu - they serve everything from the Impossible Burger to corvina ceviche, and have a killer tequila menu to top it all off. Migrate up to their other rooftop restaurant, Watr, if your crew is in the mood for sushi.
Elephante in Santa Monica
This brand new spot on the beach in Santa Monica is equal parts perfectly designed and laid-back cool. We love the inventive cocktails and small plates menu, plus you can make a reservation and book for larger parties as well, making heading here with a group a cinch.
