Peyton Tries: Watermelon Tequila Cocktail Keg Tap

By Peyton Ladt Sterns August 14, 2018

Watermelon has been having a moment this summer. I could barely get through an Instagram feed binge without seeing the refreshingly-rinded fruit juice in a cocktail.

We teamed up with our friends at Minibar who are giving Bashed readers an exclusive offer. Enter code: BASHED20 for $20 off your first purchase order of $40 or more. Enjoy!

Watermelon Tequila Cocktail Keg Tap

1 seedless watermelon

2 cups of tequila (blanco)

1/2 cup of St. Germain

1/3 cup of fresh lime juice

Add ice (optional) to chill

Difficulty

The cocktail mix is not a tough one to concoct, but this does take some thoughtful preparation. You'll need to make sure you have a watermelon keg tap on hand. To be honest, the one we purchased could use improvements, so we'll recommend this one here which includes a corer that will come in handy.

Taste

Dangerous. The recipe we made was delicious and thanks to the potent power of the watermelon juice, you could add just about anything to the mix and it would be good. For a smokey flavor, play around with adding Mezcal. If you want something with citrus flavor, add an orange vodka.

Do's and Dont's

Here's what I learned after making this for the first time.

  • Do: Use a seedless watermelon.
  • Do: Use all fresh ingredients. For example, it may be tempting to buy pre-made lime juice but freshly squeezed will always shine.
  • Do: Make sure the keg tap is long enough - you need it to break through the wall of the watermelon and leave you with room to secure the tap on the inside.
  • Do: As I mentioned above, try different types of alcohol.
  • Don't: Fill the blender too high, you may lose some juice off the top during the blending process
  • Don't: Be afraid to have more the one! But be mindful...they go down very quickly.
